Transformers in Kashmir Face Neglect: Urgent Action Needed in Kulgam: Tarigami

Kulgam, Jan 1, : CPIM leader and legislator, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Wednesday said that transformers across Kashmir, particularly in the Kulgam district, are facing severe maintenance issues due to neglect over the years. A glaring concern is the dangerously low levels of transformer oil, which has reportedly not been replenished for the past five years. This negligence poses a serious risk to the functioning of these essential power assets.
Experts have emphasized that timely oil topping is crucial to prevent potential damage to transformers. However, the lack of maintenance has exacerbated the issue, leaving many transformers at the brink of failure. Compounding the problem is the non-functional state of filtration plants, which play a critical role in maintaining transformer health.
Adding to these challenges is the reported unauthorized use of buffer stock meant for repairing damaged transformers. This misuse has created shortages, further delaying the restoration of power supply in areas dependent on these transformers.
Local residents and concerned citizens are urging authorities to take immediate action to address these issues. Tarigami appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to intervene and ensure that the necessary steps are taken to resolve the crisis.
