Mir Arifa Jan Urges CM Omar Abdullah to Establish Drug De-Addiction Centers across J&K

Srinagar, April- 01- – Mir Arifa Jan, State President (J&K) of the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar and State President of BRICS Human Rights Mission, has formally appealed to Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take immediate action against the rising drug addiction crisis in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Mir Arifa Jan has emphasized the urgent need for the establishment of Drug De-Addiction Centers in every Tehsil of the Union Territory through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Highlighting the alarming rise in substance abuse, particularly among the youth, she underscored the necessity of accessible and well-equipped rehabilitation facilities. “The absence of adequate de-addiction centers has left many young individuals without proper support for recovery. It is imperative that the government takes swift action to address this crisis,” she stated.
The proposal calls for setting up de-addiction centers staffed with essential personnel, including a Medical Officer, a Rehabilitation Psychologist, and Male/Female Rehabilitation Workers. These professionals would provide both medical treatment and psychological rehabilitation to those battling addiction.
Mir Arifa Jan has urged the J&K Government to collaborate with the Government of India to ensure the timely establishment of these centers. Copies of her request have also been forwarded to the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, and the Minister for Health & Medical Education and Social Welfare Department of J&K.
“This initiative will be a significant step toward building a drug-free society and safeguarding the future of our youth,” she affirmed.
