“Tried My Hand at the Charkha, Just Like Gandhi Ji”: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Aug 1, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who was in Gujarat for a 2-day tourism promotion, also took time to visit the historic Sabarmati Ashram, a place closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi.
Sharing a moment from his tour, Omar Abdullah posted, “I was also able to try my hand with a Charkha. I had a very patient teacher who tried to teach me to spin cotton in the same way that Gandhi ji did decades ago.”
The Chief Minister’s gesture has drawn appreciation online, with many hailing it as a symbolic tribute to Gandhian simplicity and self-reliance. He has been actively sharing glimpses of his Gujarat visit, including a morning jog along the Sabarmati Riverfront, which he described earlier as “one of the nicest places” he’s run.
An official from the Tourism Department said that Gujarat outreach is part of a broader strategy to revive domestic footfall to Kashmir, particularly post-Pahalgam incident.
