Fraudster Uses Baramulla DC’s Photo for Fake WhatsApp Account; Public Alert Issued

Authorities in Baramulla have issued a public alert after a fake WhatsApp account impersonating Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, was detected. The fraudulent account, which uses the DC’s photograph, is operating from the number 84929878962.
According to officials, the impersonator has been contacting individuals and attempting to solicit money and other favours while posing as the Deputy Commissioner. The district administration has cautioned citizens not to respond to any such messages and to avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown numbers.

“The general public is advised to remain vigilant and not fall prey to such impersonators,” the administration said, according to news agency Kashmir Dot Com, urging residents to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited messages claiming to be from government officials.
People have been asked to report any suspicious communication or attempted fraud to the Deputy Commissioner’s office at 9797777834.

Authorities are expected to initiate further action to track down the impersonator and prevent similar scams
