District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Held Meeting In Moomin Abad Court Complex Srinagar

Srinagar: In pursuance to the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in WP(C) No. 406 of 2013 in Re-human Conditions in 1382 prisons vs Union of India and ors District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conducted its maiden meeting today on 03/06/2024 .
The meeting, chaired by Mr. Jawad Ahmed, Chairman DLSA Srinagar/ Pr. District & Sessions Judge Srinagar for improving the conditions of Central Jail Srinagar. The Committee assessing the infrastructure and capacity of existing jails, and introducing modern technologies to enhance the living conditions of inmates. The meeting was attended by Syed Ahmad Kataria, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Umar Shah SP Headquarter of Police Srinagar, Sheikh Zulfiqar Azad, Sr. Superintendent of Police Central Jail Srinagar, Jahangir Ahmed Bakshi, Secretary DLSA Srinagar and Shabir Ahmad Mir, Deputy Superintendent of Police Srinagar.
One of the key areas of discussion was the need for expanding the central jail to address the issue of overcrowding and provide better facilities to prisoners. The Committee recognized the importance of providing a humane and dignified environment for those in custody, and explored ways to achieve this goal.
During the meeting Chairman DLSA Srinagar said, that the District Legal Services Authority is committed to ensuring that the rights of prisoners are protected and their living conditions are improved. Today’s meeting marks an important step towards achieving this goal, and we look forward to working together with all stakeholders to bring about positive change.”
