
Ganderbal, Aug 03 : Police in Ganderbal continue with their stringent policy against those involved in illegal extraction and unauthorised transportation of minor minerals like sand, bajri and boulders in this central Kashmir district.
A police official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that on the direction of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, the special police teams were constituted to check the menace of illegal mining in the district.
He said the teams were led by SHOs and DOs of police stations and police posts under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan and DySP Hqrs Ganderbal Ghulam Hassan.
“In the course of action, 17 people were arrested while 15 tippers, one tractor and one dumper were seized in June and July months. These vehicles were loaded with illegally extracted bajri, sand and boulders from Nallah Sindh Ganderbal,” the official said.
In this regard, the cases under FIR numbers 150, 158, 159, 217, 170, 39, 43, 42, 46, 17 and 04 of 2023 IPC stand registered at police stations of Ganderbal, Kheer Bhawani, Lar, Safapora and Sonamarg respectively, and the investigations have been taken up, he said.
Ganderbal Police has adopted a zero-tolerance against illegal mining and warns those involved to refrain from this practice, otherwise strict action under the law will be taken against them, the police official said—(KNO)
