Without naming any political group, Omar said that those who earlier accused the government of “doing nothing on reservation” are now threatening agitation once the changes move ahead.

“It is easy to do politics on the issue. Those who were taunting us, saying we had done nothing on reservation, are now saying if you do this, we will launch an agitation,” he said.

The CM said the government has conducted a comprehensive review, noting that the matter was examined multiple times at various levels.

“We couldn’t have carried out a more detailed exercise than this. Every issue was looked into. The issue was discussed more than once. This is the third or fourth time that the issue has come before the cabinet. The cabinet sub-committee took six months to complete the exercise,” he said.

Omar Abdullah, however, declined to share the cabinet’s final decision on the reservation issue.

“The matter will now go to the LG. I wouldn’t like to disclose more on it,” he added
