Anantnag Police Destroy Over 345 Kg of Seized Narcotics

Anantnag, Oct 4, : Anantnag Police on Saturday participated in the disposal of a large quantity of seized narcotics and psychotropic substances under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPSA) for the year 2025. The disposal was conducted at the Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) Lassipora in Pulwama district in the presence of the Drug Disposal Committee, adhering strictly to the legal procedures outlined under the NDPS Act.
According to officials, the destroyed narcotics were linked to 49 FIRs registered under various provisions of the NDPS Act in district Anantnag. The police said the operation was part of an ongoing drive to dismantle networks involved in drug trafficking and ensure that seized contraband is destroyed in a lawful and transparent manner.
The exercise witnessed the destruction of a massive quantity of banned substances, including 138.25 kilograms of poppy straw, 22.9 kilograms of ganja, 31.936 kilograms of charas, 101.68 kilograms of fukki, 47.15 kilograms of cannabis powder, 3.18 kilograms of bung boosa, 6.23 grams of brown sugar, and 75 bottles of codeine phosphate and wisky syrup. In total, around 345.102 kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic material were destroyed.
A senior police officer present at the site said that the disposal followed all required formalities in the presence of the committee constituted for the purpose, ensuring transparency and compliance with established norms. “The destruction of such a large quantity of contraband sends a strong message that the Anantnag Police remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicate the drug menace from society,” the officer said.
Officials from the Drug Disposal Committee appreciated the proactive approach of the Anantnag Police in identifying, seizing, and destroying the narcotic substances. They said such coordinated actions help in not only reducing the availability of drugs but also in discouraging those involved in peddling and trafficking activities.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, under its intensified anti-narcotics campaign, has been regularly organizing similar disposal drives to ensure that seized contraband is destroyed in a timely and lawful manner. This is in line with the broader strategy to strengthen preventive mechanisms and create awareness about the consequences of drug abuse.
Police also reiterated their appeal to the public to remain vigilant and share information about any drug-related activities in their areas. “We are committed to making Anantnag a drug-free district. Public cooperation plays a key role in identifying peddlers and breaking the chain of supply,” the statement said.
