IGNOU Takes Education To The Doorsteps Of The Learners

Srinagar: The Indira Gandhi National Open University is making continuous efforts to achieve the objectives of democratising higher education by taking it to the doorsteps of the learners, providing access to high quality education to all those who seek it irrespective of age, region, religion and gender, offering need-based academic programmes by giving professional and vocational orientation to the courses, and promoting and developing distance education in India. In continuation with its efforts to achieve these objectives, IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar organised various pre-admission counselling sessions in every nook and corner of the Valley through its vast network of Learner Support Centres (LSCs) and Programme Study Centres (PSCs) established in the various government colleges, technical institutions and other HEIs of the valley. The admission counselling sessions were held in GDC Kupwara, GDC Handwara, GDC Sopore, GDC Baramulla, GDC Pattan, GDC Tangmarg, GDC Magam, GDC Badgam, GDC Women MA Road Srinagar, SP college Srinagar, Amar Singh College Srinagar, NIELIT Srinagar, GDC Tral, GDC Pulwama, GDC Shopian, GDC Kulgam, GDC DH Pora, GDC Boys Anantnag, GDC Women Anantnag and Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kashmir. The Coordinators/Programme incharges of the LSCs/PSCs conducted these pre-admission counselling sessions along with the team of part-time functionaries of these LSCs/ PSCs in which large number of students and the prospective learners of IGNOU participated. The participants were informed about the IGNOU, the programmes offered by it and the admission procedure to join the university. The participants were also briefed about the unique features of the programmes offered by IGNOU; they follow the multidisciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach, are cost-effective, provide individualised study approach which offers flexibility in terms of place, pace and duration of study and are convergence of open and conventional education systems.

The participants were informed that the last date of fresh admission and for re-registration for all the programmes offered in ODL/Online mode by IGNOU for January 2023 session has been extended till 10th March 2023. The prospective students can refer to the e-prospectus 2023 of IGNOU for the complete details regarding all the programmes. The e-Prospectus is available on the website of IGNOU (www.ignou.ac.in) and of the Regional Centre Srinagar (www.rcsrinagar.ignou.ac.in). The applicants interested to enroll in the programme can access the admission portal of the university at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

The Regional Director IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar, also informed that the Coordinators/Programme incharges also educated the participants that they can also take advantage of the IGNOU programmes, keeping in view the two notifications issued by the UGC, one regarding pursuing dual degree under which a candidate can pursue two degree at a time and the other regarding the ‘equivalence of degree obtained through Open Distance Learning and Online mode with degree obtained through conventional mode’.
