
Srinagar, Mar 5 (GNS): Upper reaches including Gulmarg received very light snowfall while rains lashed plains even as the weatherman on Sunday forecast isolated very light rain and dry weather over Jammu and Kashmir till March 12.
โThe weather is expected to be partly cloudy with possibility of intermittent light rain (light snow over higher reaches) at isolated places of Kashmir Division in next 24 hours,โ a meteorological department official here told GNS.
He said mainly clear to partly cloudy with dry weather was expected from March 6 to 12.
In last 24 hours till 0830 hours, he said, Srinagar recorded 0.6mm of rain, Qazigund 1.8mm, Pahalgam 16mm, Kokernag 4.4mm, Gulmarg 2.4mm, Bahihal 2.8mm, Batote 3.0mm, Bhaderwah 0.3mm while Gulmarg received 0.6cm snowfall.
A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 7.4ยฐC against 6.4ยฐC on the previous night and it was above normal by 5.2ยฐC for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 6.5ยฐC against 4.2ยฐC on the previous night and it was 5.6ยฐC above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 1.2ยฐC, same as on the previous night and it was 3.5ยฐC above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmirโs Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 4.7ยฐC against 4.8ยฐC on the previous night and it was 3.8ยฐC above normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.8ยฐC against minus 1.0ยฐC on the previous night and it was 2.7ยฐC above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmirโs Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 3.6ยฐC against 4.2ยฐC on the previous night and it was 2.6ยฐC above normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 13.0ยฐC against 13.2ยฐC on the previous night. It was 0.7ยฐC above normal for J&Kโs winter capital, he said.
Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 6.8ยฐC (above normal by 0.7ยฐC), Batote 6.0ยฐC (above normal by 0.2ยฐC), Katra 12.0ยฐC (1.5ยฐC above normal) and Bhadarwah 4.4ยฐC (2.3ยฐC above normal).
Ladakhโs Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 5.2ยฐC and minus 1.6ยฐC respectively, the official added. (GNS)
