Cyber Police foil online frauds in Budgam

The Cyber Police Station Budgam has intensified its crackdown on the surge in cyber-enabled crimes, recovering ₹15,87,593 lost to various online frauds during October and November 2025.
Officials said the recovered amount was linked to a range of cybercrime complaints, including UPI frauds, fake social media deals, online marketplace scams, fraudulent loan applications, OTP manipulation, and bogus investment schemes.
Acting promptly on each complaint, the Cyber Police froze suspicious transactions, collaborated closely with banks and financial institutions, and traced digital footprints to ensure swift recovery of the victims’ money, an official said.
In addition to financial recoveries, the unit also traced and returned 52 lost or stolen mobile phones, valued at approximately ₹1.5 lakh, through the Citizen Information and Equipment Recovery (CIER) portal.
District Police Budgam has urged residents to remain cautious while using digital platforms, refrain from sharing sensitive personal or banking information, and report any suspicious online activity without delay.
For assistance or to report cybercrimes, citizens can contact the Cyber Police Station Budgam, can visit the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal https://www.cybercrime.gov.in, or call the dedicated helpline 1930, the official added.
