Police seizes illicit timber in Sopore, 3 accused arrested

February 06: Police in Sopore have seized illicit timber by arresting 3 accused persons involved in the commission of crime.

A police party led by SHO Police Station Dangiwacha along with officials of Forest Department at a checkpoint established at Batpora intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05-3642 with three persons on board. During checking of the vehicle, 10Cft of illicit timber was seized. The accused persons involved in the commission of crime were also arrested on spot who have been identified as Junaid Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, Azhar Ahmad Parra son of Ghulam Mohi-u-din Parra and Abdul Latief Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir, all the residents of Aadipora Sopore.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 06/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha & investigation has been taken up.

The drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold. Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making every effort to keep our society free of crime. Police have resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal & anti-social activities.
