August 06: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested a drug smuggler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession. Besides, destroyed wild Cannabis at Malik Mohalla Magraypora Baramulla.
A police party led by SHO PS Uri under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shri Shokat Ali-JKPS at a checkpoint established at Paranpeelan Uri intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party. During search, 9 grams of Heroin like contraband substance concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Yasir Ahmad Khan son of Shakeel Ahmad Khan resident of Paranpeelan Uri. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Uri and investigation has been initiated.
Moreover, Police received information regarding the presence of wild cannabis at Malik Mohalla Magraypora Baramulla. Accordingly, a police party led by Incharge Police Post Wussan alongwith Sarpanch, Numberdar & respectables of Magraypora Wussan under the overall supervision of SDPO Pattan Shri Mohd Nawaz-JKPS, reached the spot and destroyed the wild cannabis spread over 5 kanals of land. General public of these areas have hailed the efforts of the Police.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
