GDC Probe Panel Completes Inquiry into Harassment of Female Engineer by MS
Will submit report to H&ME Secretary Within Two Days: GDC Principal
Srinagar, August 6: The Jammu and Kashmir administration is nearing the conclusion of its investigation into the alleged harassment of a female engineer by Dr. Shabir Ahmad Shah, the in-charge Medical Superintendent at Government Dental College (GDC) Srinagar.
Professor Dr. Ajaz Ahmad Shah, the GDC Principal told Srinagar-based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com that the inquiry committee, led by Prof. Altaf Hussain Chalkoo, has completed its investigation and will submit its report to the Secretary of Health and Medical Education within the next two days.
Meanwhile, sources told KDC that the LGโs advisor R R Bhatnagar too had summoned Dental College authorities and R&B officials last week to apprise him about the whole incident.
Sources said that the advisor has asked the GDC authorities for remedial measures in the college so that such incidents donโt repeat.
This development follows a controversial incident on July 9, 2024, during the inauguration of a flag structure at the college. The female Junior Engineer from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department alleged that Dr. Shah verbally abused and harassed her after spotting that his name was not inscribed on the marble plaque of the new structure.
The engineer claimed the abuse was severe enough to cause her to nearly faint and led to widespread criticism from engineers and contractors involved with the project, who subsequently boycotted further work.
The allegations sparked significant unrest, with numerous complaints submitted to the GDC Principal and higher authorities. The MS, however, has defended himself, suggesting the complaints stem from dissatisfaction with the progress of the collegeโs construction projects and not from personal misconduct. (KDC)
