Indian-Origin Nephrologist Dr. Sanjeev Gulati honored by ANIO for Service Excellence
Dr. Sanjeev Gulati, Executive Director of Nephrology at Fortis Hospitals, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, has been awarded the prestigious Service Excellence Award by the American Nephrologists of Indian Origin (ANIO). This recognition highlights his outstanding contributions to nephrology and kidney care, both in India and globally.
He is a Member of the Governing Body of the Indian Society of Nephrology, the Immediate Past President of the Indian Nephrology Society, and the ex-Vice President of the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation. He was previously an Additional Professor of Nephrology at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, and served as an Associate Professor of Nephrology at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada. He returned to India to significantly impact people suffering from kidney disease in India.
Dr. Gulati completed his MBBS at MAMC, Delhi, followed by an MD from PGIMER, Chandigarh, and a DM from SGPGIMS, Lucknow. He has also completed fellowships at Guy’s Hospital, London, Royal Children’s and Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia, and the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada.
He holds dual qualifications in adult and pediatric nephrology. He played a pivotal role in the Dialysis and Transplant program at SGPGI, Lucknow, one of the country’s largest programs. He has published more than 250 papers in indexed scientific journals.
His research on intravenous cyclophosphamide in nephrotic syndrome is cited in the IPNA guidelines as a simple, low-cost treatment for resource-limited countries, and his work on bone disease in nephrotic syndrome is featured in the 2024 KDIGO guidelines. One of his landmark contributions
is his public education YouTube channel, “Dr. Sanjeev Gulati Kidney Clinic,” which aims to raise awareness of kidney diseases.
The channel has garnered more than 35 million views. Through his YouTube channel, he educates the public on various aspects of kidney diseases.
He has also taken on quacks and alternative therapy practitioners who promote unscientific and unvalidated treatments for kidney conditions. He also serves as the Liaison Officer for the Kidney education Foundation, where he has collaborated with over 100 kidney specialists worldwide on an online book, “Save Your Kidney,” which is available in 37 languages.
