Tourists Rejoice as Gulmarg Receives Fresh Snow, Boosting Winter Tourism Hopes

Gulmarg, Oct 6, : The world-famous tourist resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district witnessed its first snowfall of the season on Monday, turning the scenic meadows of Kangamdor into a breathtaking white expanse. The light to moderate snowfall, which began early in the morning, marked the official onset of winter in the region.

The snow blanketed pine forests, rooftops, and the rolling green slopes of Gulmarg, creating a mesmerizing landscape that drew locals and tourists outdoors. Visitors were seen capturing photographs, building snowmen, and enjoying steaming cups of tea and snacks as the valley transformed into a winter wonderland.

The popular Kolahoi Panorama Café & Restaurant, prominently visible in pictures shared online, became a favourite stop for tourists seeking warmth and refreshments while soaking in the snow-clad views. The café’s elevated vantage point offered visitors a panoramic glimpse of the majestic mountains shrouded in snow.

Tourists from across India and abroad expressed joy at witnessing Gulmarg’s first snowfall. “It’s a dream come true to see snow for the first time. Gulmarg looks magical,” said an excited visitor. Local guides, hoteliers, and pony owners also welcomed the snowfall, hopeful that the early onset of winter would draw more tourists and boost the local economy ahead of the ski season.

The Gulmarg Gondola, one of Asia’s highest cable cars connecting Kangamdor and Apharwat peaks, remained the main attraction, offering breathtaking aerial views of the snow-covered valley.

Tourism officials confirmed that all roads leading to Gulmarg were open but advised motorists to drive cautiously due to slippery stretches. The early snow has raised expectations of a vibrant winter season, with adventure sports operators preparing for skiing and snowboarding activities in the coming weeks.

With its first snow of the year, Gulmarg has once again reaffirmed its title as the “crown of Kashmir,” where every flake adds to the poetry of nature and the charm of the Himalayas.
