Reshi remembers Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Calls him epitome of unity

Srinager 7 Jan Former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and senior politician Yasir Reshi paid tribute to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, a towering figure in Indian politics and a visionary leader of Jammu and Kashmir, on his 9th death anniversary. Reshi highlighted Sayeedโ€™s extraordinary statesmanship and his dedication to fostering peace, development, and mutual understanding in one of South Asia’s most complex regions. He said that Mufti Sayeed envisioned Jammu and Kashmir as a bridge of peace not only within India but across the entire subcontinent.

Yasar Reshi emphasized that Mufti Sayeed dreamed of a South Asia where borders would serve as points of connection rather than division. His vision included seamless cross-border interactions, which he believed could lay the foundation for lasting peace in the region. Sayeed often stressed the need for a roadmap for Jammu and Kashmir similar to Europe, where multiple nations operate under a single passport framework.

Reshi noted that Mufti Sayeed’s efforts led to significant breakthroughs such as the opening of trade and travel routes, including the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalakot bus services. These initiatives, Reshi said, were not merely symbolic but formed the cornerstone of Sayeedโ€™s visionary leadership.

Describing Mufti Sayeed as a statesman unparalleled in South Asia, Reshi remarked that he was the only politician who envisioned transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a “free zone” akin to the European model. According to Reshi, Sayeed had full confidence in Indiaโ€™s ability to work towards this vision.

โ€œAlthough Mufti Mohammad Sayeed couldnโ€™t see his vision fully realized during his lifetime, I am confident that his leadership and ideas will inspire concrete steps in the near future to achieve his dream,โ€ Yasar Reshi said.
