Amit Shah Says Statehood for J&K Will Be Restored, Calls Meet with Omar Abdullah Cordial

New Delhi, Apr 9, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that Jammu and Kashmir will get back its statehood and assured that the BJP has never discriminated against any regional government.
Speaking during the Rising Bharat Summit 2025 hosted by CNN-News18, Shah according to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com said his recent meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was cordial and focused on development and governance.
“We have always supported regional governments equally, without any bias,” Shah said, adding that the Centre is committed to working with J&K’s elected leadership.
He did not give a specific date for the restoration of statehood but repeated that the process will happen at the right time.
Statehood for J&K has remained a major issue ever since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which turned the state into a Union Territory.
