Javid Dar chairs a reviews meeting of irrigation facilities in rain-fed areas

SRINAGAR, JULY 9: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, today chaired a meeting to review the irrigation facilities and identify areas for improvement in rain-fed areas of J&K at the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar.
The meeting assessed the current situation and explored the strategies to further enhance irrigation infrastructure and water management practices to benefit the farmers community.
Director Command Areas Development, Kashmir; CEO IWMP; Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir; Superintendent Engineer, PHE Mechanical Circle North; Executive Engineer PHE, Ground Water Division Kashmir; Chief Agriculture Officer Baramulla and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to work out potential solutions like implementing modern irrigation technologies, improving water storage and distribution networks and promoting the water conservation practices.
Dar emphasized the government’s commitment towards bolstering the agricultural sector, with a particular focus on enhancing the irrigation facilities in rain-dependent areas, to support the farmers and improve crop productivity.
The Minister directed the concerned to identify the suitable site in solely rain-fed areas of the districts where borewell can be taken up under various schemes.
Javid Dar emphasised the need for intensifying the awareness campaigns and providing training to farmers on water conservation techniques, efficient irrigation methods and sustainable farming practices.
