Security Tightened in JK ahead of Independence Day Celebrations

Srinagar, Aug 10: In anticipation of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in collaboration with other security forces, have rolled out an extensive array of security measures aimed at ensuring both safety and peace during the festivities.

The security apparatus has been significantly fortified, encompassing a comprehensive strategy that integrates advanced surveillance, heightened patrolling, and rigorous checks.
This multi-layered approach is designed to preempt and address any potential threats, ensuring that the celebrations proceed without incident.

Security officials told KNS that authorities are working together across different areas, using both visible and hidden methods to keep public order and prevent any disruptions.
This includes the deployment of additional personnel, advanced technology for monitoring, and collaborative strategies involving Police, CRPF, the Army, and the Border Security Force (BSF).

Authorities will introduce a three-tiered security system across district headquarters, with a focus on major cities such as Srinagar. โ€œSecurity arrangements have been meticulously planned. Patrolling is ongoing, and both covert and overt surveillance is in place. We are confident that the Independence Day celebrations will proceed smoothly,โ€ stated a senior police official.

Enhanced security includes increased frisking and rigorous surveillance to facilitate the smooth movement of people and maintain public order. โ€œAcross district headquarters, including Srinagar city, surveillance and frisking have been intensified to ensure the smooth movement of people,โ€ the official added.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is scheduled to preside over the main Independence Day function, which will feature a series of special events planned by the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

In Jammu, security measures have been significantly bolstered, particularly along the borders.

The Army and Border Security Force (BSF) have intensified their vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). โ€œWe have stepped up area domination and checking in the hinterland as part of the enhanced security arrangements,โ€ said a senior military officer.

The Police have urged residents to cooperate with security personnel during checks and to report any suspicious activity. โ€œWe call on the public to be vigilant and report any unusual movements or objects. Our priority is to ensure a secure environment for all,โ€ the security officials said.

Additionally, the Jammu zone police have called for heightened alertness and โ€˜offensive operationsโ€™ to counter potential terror threats. They have emphasized strengthening border security, implementing anti-drone measures, and establishing joint checkpoints at vulnerable locations and inter-district boundaries.
The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory government has issued an order requiring all government employees stationed in Srinagar and Jammu to attend the main Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2024, at Bakshi Stadium and Maulana Azad Stadium, respectively.

โ€œAttendance is mandatory as part of official duties. Absences will only be granted with prior approval from immediate superiors,โ€ the directive states.

Furthermore, Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and leaders of Public Sector Undertakings have been directed to ensure their staff adheres to this requirement.(KNS)
