Azad Welcomes Interim Bail for Engineer Rashid Ahead of J&K Assembly Elections

Srinagar, Sep 10 : Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), has welcomed the interim bail granted to Member of Parliament and Awami Ittehad Party Chief, Engineer Rashid. Azad hailed the Delhi Patiala House Court’s decision as a significant step towards justice.

“As a democratically elected MP with a strong mandate, this is a step towards justice and his right to campaign in the assembly elections,” said Azad, as per the news agency KINS.

Engineer Rashid has been in custody in connection with a terror funding case, which kept him away from active political engagement.

His interim bail, granted by Delhi’s special NIA court, is effective until October 2, 2024, and allows him to actively participate in the campaign leading up to the critical elections.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, scheduled to take place in three phases—on September 18, 25, and October 1.

Engineer Rashid’s supporters believe that his return to the campaign trail will significantly influence the outcome of the elections.

Sources within the Awami Ittehad Party have confirmed that preparations are already underway for Engineer Rashid’s return to public life.

One of the AIP leaders said that his supporters, long awaiting his release, are eager to welcome him back with large rallies, hoping to leverage his popularity to gain a stronger foothold in the assembly race.

“Rashid’s voice resonates deeply with the people of Baramulla and beyond. His return to the political scene is crucial, and we expect his participation will reignite hope among our supporters,” a close associate of Engineer Rashid commented.

The votes will be counted on October 8, a date eagerly awaited by all major political players in the region.
