Leopard Captured Alive in Kulgam Village After Early Morning Scare

Kulgam, Apr 11, A leopard that caused panic among residents in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district was captured alive by the Wildlife Department on Friday, following a swift and carefully executed operation.
Officials said the animal was first spotted in the early hours of the morning in Oriel Kund village, where it reportedly attempted to attack a local resident. The presence of the wild predator triggered fear across the area, prompting locals to alert the authorities.
Responding quickly, a team from the Wildlife Department reached the village and set up a trap to contain the leopard. After several hours of coordinated efforts, the team successfully tranquilized and captured the animal without causing any harm.
“The leopard was safely sedated and captured,” an official confirmed. “It will be relocated to a safer location as per standard protocol.”
Wildlife authorities have urged residents in fringe and forest-adjacent areas to remain vigilant and report any sightings of wild animals immediately, as human-animal conflicts continue to rise in various parts of the Valley.
