Leopard Captured Alive in Kulgam Village After Early Morning Scare

Kulgam, Apr 11, A leopard that caused panic among residents in South Kashmirโ€™s Kulgam district was captured alive by the Wildlife Department on Friday, following a swift and carefully executed operation.

Officials said the animal was first spotted in the early hours of the morning in Oriel Kund village, where it reportedly attempted to attack a local resident. The presence of the wild predator triggered fear across the area, prompting locals to alert the authorities.

Responding quickly, a team from the Wildlife Department reached the village and set up a trap to contain the leopard. After several hours of coordinated efforts, the team successfully tranquilized and captured the animal without causing any harm.

โ€œThe leopard was safely sedated and captured,โ€ an official confirmed. โ€œIt will be relocated to a safer location as per standard protocol.โ€

Wildlife authorities have urged residents in fringe and forest-adjacent areas to remain vigilant and report any sightings of wild animals immediately, as human-animal conflicts continue to rise in various parts of the Valley.
