Elections Without Statehood Will be a ‘Farce’ and ‘Eyewash’: Imran Ansari
Srinagar, Aug 11: Molvi Imran Raza Ansari, General Secretary of the Peoples Conference, has welcomed the recent visit of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to Jammu and Kashmir, despite not being invited.
He believes the visit has allowed the ECI to witness the ground reality of the union territory.
However, Ansari said that holding elections without fully restoring statehood with all powers would be a “farce” and “eyewash.”
He stressed that elections should be held on time, as demanded by the people and political parties of Jammu and Kashmir.
Regarding the Waqf Board bill, Ansari expressed strong opposition, stating that the government should not interfere in religious affairs.
Ansari also clarified that his party will not form an alliance with anyone during the upcoming assembly elections.
He emphasized the need for a proper elected government in Jammu and Kashmir, rather than the current setup, which he believes would make the elections a mere “eyewash.”(KNS).
