Mystery Illness in Rajouri: One Child Dead, Several Hospitalized as Officials Scramble for Answers

Rajouri. Jammu , Jan 12 – : – Panic has gripped Badhaal village in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir as a mysterious illness has claimed one life and left several others hospitalized. Six children from a single family fell ill under unexplained circumstances, prompting an urgent medical response.

Three of the affected children were shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu, where one girl tragically passed away. The other two remain under observation. Meanwhile, three children are being treated at GMC Rajouri.

Authorities at GMC Jammu confirmed the death, stating that the exact cause is still under investigation. This incident comes just weeks after a similar tragedy struck the village on December 8, when four members of a family, including three children, died of suspected food poisoning.

In light of the recurring health crisis, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rajouri-Poonch, Tejinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Sikarwar visited Badhaal to assess the situation and reassure the community.

As part of relief efforts, ambulances, health teams, and ASHA workers have been deployed to provide immediate medical aid. Samples have been collected from the patients to identify the source of the illness, and multiple departments are working in tandem to manage the crisis.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will act based on the findings of the ongoing investigations,” DC Rajouri stated. The administration has urged the public not to panic and to adhere to official advisories.

The police have also launched a fresh investigation into the matter. SSP Gaurav Sikarwar assured residents of strengthened security and a proactive approach to addressing any emergent issues.

The mysterious illness has so far claimed nine lives in the village, spreading fear and uncertainty among the residents. Authorities have pledged swift action to uncover the cause and prevent further tragedies.
