NIT Srinagar beats KVS J&K & Ladakh Team in friendly cricket match by 6 wickets
Srinagar, July 12: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar emerged victorious against the KVS J&K & Ladakh team in a friendly cricket match held at the Institute’s main ground.
Chasing a target of 100 runs, NIT Srinagar secured the win by 6 wickets in just 12.5 overs, showcasing their cricketing prowess and team spirit.
The post-match ceremony was presided over by Chief Guest, Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, and Prof. Abdul Liman as Guest of Honor. They felicitated both teams and player of the match.
In his message, Prof. Rehman said that such events are not just about competition, but about fostering camaraderie, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the participants.
“Engaging in friendly matches like these encourages a sense of unity and strengthens the bonds. In future more such matches will be hosted at NIT Srinagar,” he said.
The KVS team was led by Nagendra Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of the Delhi Region, while NIT Srinagar was led by DR (Admin) Faisal Irshad Ganai. After winning the toss, KVS chose to bat first and were bowled out for 100 runs in the 19th over.
Aryan was the highest scorer for KVS, accumulating a total of 51 runs. Gurdeep added 17 runs, and Mr. Pradeep (I/C), Principal of KVS Samba, scored a crucial 16 runs for the team.
From the NIT Srinagar side, wicketkeeper Sohail Baba made 4 stumpings, dismissing Balvir Singh Jamwal, Aryan, Azhar, Islam Khan, and Pradeep Yadav.
NIT Srinagar chased the target in 12.5 overs with the loss of 4 wickets. Mr. Faisal Irshad Ganai was the highest scorer for NIT Srinagar, with 29 runs, followed by 23 runs from Dr. Tanveer Rasool and 22 runs were scored by AR (Director’s Office Mohammad Hazik.
Dr. Shakeel Waseem took 4 crucial wickets in his 4 overs and was declared the Man of the Match. AR (Special Secretary to Director) Shahid Hamid also took 3 wickets for 30 runs in his four overs, while Faisal Irshad and Dr. Majid each took 1 wicket.
Dr. Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor of Physics and Guest House In-charge at NIT Srinagar, was the coordinator of the match. This match was not merely a game but a celebration of unity, teamwork, and the spirit of sportsmanship, he added.
Meanwhile Dr. Pankaj Kumar enhanced the match experience with his excellent commentating skills.
