Kulgam Police Attach Drug Trafficker’s Properties Worth ₹1.5 Crore Under NDPS Act

In a major crackdown on the drug menace, Kulgam Police have attached immovable properties worth approximately ₹1.5 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler in Kulgam.
The attached properties include six shops, five godowns, one tin shed, and one plinth, all located at Village Manigam. The properties belong to Mohd Ashraf Khanday, son of Ghulam Ahmad Khanday, a resident of Nipora, Kulgam, and fall under the jurisdiction of Police Station Qazigund.
Police officials said the action was taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, following due legal procedure. Investigations established that the properties were proceeds of crime acquired through illicit drug trafficking activities and were directly linked to drug peddling operations.
The accused is also involved in FIR No. 196/2024 registered under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act at the concerned police station.
Officials said the attachment forms part of sustained and strategic efforts by Kulgam Police to dismantle the financial networks of drug traffickers and to send a strong message that crime does not pay.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, said that Kulgam Police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and narcotics-related activities. He warned that anyone found involved in drug peddling, financing, harbouring offenders, or creating support networks for the narcotics trade will face strict legal action, including attachment of property, financial investigations, and prosecution under stringent provisions of law.
The SSP further stated that drug traffickers must understand that illegal wealth will be identified, seized, and dismantled, and that no one will be spared under the law. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the police by sharing information and helping protect youth and society from the destructive impact of drugs.
