Rajouri, Aug 13, A 25-year-old woman and her two-year-old son were killed when a speeding vehicle hit them in Khawas Budhal area of Rajouri district late last night.
Officials said the incident took place near Lathi when the driver of a Mahindra XUV-300, bearing registration number 24BH5324C, allegedly lost control of the vehicle while travelling at high speed. The car veered off its course and struck the victims with considerable force.
The deceased have been identified as Lalita Devi, wife of Baljeet Singh, and her toddler son Krish, both residents of Bhella. According to officials, the impact was so severe that both mother and child died on the spot before any medical assistance could reach them.
Locals rushed to the scene following the accident and informed the police. The bodies were later taken for medico-legal formalities before being handed over to the family for last rites.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings point to rash and negligent driving, though further details are expected after completion of the inquiry.
