Srinagar, Mar 14, : PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday accused certain groups of distorting the spirit of Holi by turning it into a source of fear for minorities, allegedly with the backing of those in power.
Reacting to the controversy over Holi coinciding with the Friday prayers of Ramzan, Mufti took to social media to express her disappointment.
“Holi has always been a symbol of India’s rich cultural harmony. I have cherished memories of celebrating it with my Hindu friends. But today, some extremists have turned it into an occasion of fear for minorities, with silent approval from those at the helm,” she wrote on X, urging the nation to wake up to the growing polarization.
A day earlier, the PDP chief had warned that fostering discord between Hindus and Muslims could have grave consequences.
