Chief Education Officer Anantnag Takes Refuge in Tent Amid School Infrastructure Crisis

Pahalgam -Pahelipora Charigam March 15 – CNS:-In a striking reflection of the dire state of school infrastructure, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Anantnag recently took refuge in a tent, the same temporary structure where students of Government Middle School Pahelipora Charigam have been studying due to the absence of a proper school building.
The school, which serves dozens of enrolled children, lacks even basic facilities, forcing students and teachers to conduct classes under makeshift tents, exposed to the harsh weather conditions of the region. Parents and locals have repeatedly raised concerns about the unsafe and inadequate learning environment, but their appeals have largely fallen on deaf ears.
Speaking on the issue, one of the school staff members highlighted the immense challenges students face daily. “It becomes extremely difficult for children to focus on their studies when they have to deal with extreme cold in winter and unbearable heat in summer,” the teacher stated.
The visit by the Chief Education Officer is being seen as an acknowledgment of the hardships faced by students and teachers alike. While the officer’s brief stay in the tent might have been symbolic, residents demand concrete action. “We need a proper school building, not just temporary visits and assurances,” a concerned parent said.
The education department has yet to provide a clear timeline for the construction of a permanent school structure. Meanwhile, the children of Pahelipora Charigam continue to struggle for their fundamental right to education in a dignified environment.
