
Sopore, Sep 15 : Amid tight security, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday evening held a candlelight march to pay homage to three security officers killed in a encounter at Kokernag
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), BJP District vice president Abdul Hameed Bhat, I/C Sopore constituency Reyaz Ahmed Dentoo, District secretary Rafeeq Ahmed Mir and others took part in the candlelight march from Degree College to Clock Tower, expressing solidarity with the families of two Army officers and a police officer.
“We are with the slain and their families”, said the BJP leader. “We don’t want bloodshed in Kashmir. Let us live our lives peacefully. Let our Kashmir be Jannat-e-Benazir again,” he said.
Changing pro-national slogans and holding placards in their hands, the BJP leaders termed the killing of security men very unfortunate, saying losing such brave officers is a big loss to the nation.
“The slain were brave and dedicated officers. They sacrificed their lives for us, for our peaceful future,” said Reyaz Dentoo, while praying for peace. “Our prayers are always with the slain and their families”, he added.
The march was carried amid tight security measures with policemen deployed across the vital junctions on the rally route from the Government Degree College point to newly constructed clock tower in the busiest Iqbal market.
On Wednesday, two Army officers and a DySP rank police officer laid down their lives while fighting militants in an encounter at Gadool hamlet in South Kashmir’s Anantnag, which entered the third day on Friday.
The officers were identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh (CO), who was leading 19 Rashtriya Riffles, Major Aashish Dhonchak and Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat, son of a former DIG, Jammu and Kashmir Police Ghulam Hassan Bhat—(KNO)
