**Stampede at New Delhi Railway Station Claims 18 Lives; Compensation Announced**
**New Delhi, February 16, 2025** – A tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night (February 15) has claimed the lives of at least 18 people, including 14 women, according to Delhi Police. The incident, which occurred around 10 PM, left several others injured as chaos unfolded on crowded platforms.
Authorities reported that the stampede broke out as passengers rushed to board trains heading to Prayagraj for the ongoing Maha Kumbh festival. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the overwhelming crowd led to a loss of control, resulting in the fatal tragedy. Emergency responders and railway officials rushed to the scene to manage the situation and assist the injured.
Following the incident, Indian Railways has announced financial compensation for the victims and their families. The families of the deceased will receive Rs 10 lakh, while those seriously injured will be given Rs 2.5 lakh. Individuals with minor injuries will receive Rs 1 lakh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other government officials expressed their condolences over the tragedy, assuring that a high-level inquiry has been launched to investigate the causes and prevent future incidents. Additional crowd management measures have also been introduced at major railway stations, including New Delhi and Anand Vihar, to handle increased passenger movement during the festival season.
