9th Muharram: Sunni-Shia unity on display again in Srinagar
Sunni groups actively participating in processions, serve refreshments
Srinagar, Jul 16 : Amidst the processions in Srinagar, a touching display of unity was witnessed in the Babademb area here, as Sunni groups have been actively participating in serving refreshments to Shia mourners.
As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer KNO), on the occasion of 9th Muharram, a stall named “Sabeel E Hussain” was set up at Babdem, Srinagar, by Sunni volunteers.
The initiative was led by Zahoor Ahmad Malik and Burhan Nazir, who were joined by other dedicated volunteers including Ubaid Mukhtar, Aqib Nazir, and Younis Nazir.
Zahoor Ahmad Malik, speaking to KNO, expressed his sentiments, saying that their aim is to foster unity and compassion among all communities.
“Muharram is a time for reflection and solidarity, and we are here to support our Shia brothers and sisters in their time of mourning. Hussain (AS) does not belong to one particular community but to all. Karbala has taught us not to submit to an oppressor,” he added.
Meanwhile, as a gesture of community support, the Jammu and Kashmir Police also set up a stall at Babademb, providing refreshments to the mourners. This act further emphasized the spirit of harmony and cooperation within the region—(KNO)
