Assembly Elections: Tarigami, Muzaffar Shah Welcome J&K Polls Announcement
Srinagar, August 16: The announcement of assembly election dates in Jammu and Kashmir by the Election Commission of India (ECI) has received a positive response from political leaders, including Muzaffar Shah, Vice President of the Awami National Conference, and M.Y. Tarigami of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Both leaders welcomed the decision but emphasized the need for the restoration of full statehood to the region before the elections.
Muzaffar Shah expressed his appreciation for the ECI’s announcement but stressed that the central government must fulfill its promise by restoring statehood. “It must be announced before the elections,” he insisted. Shah also called for the cancellation of all recent administrative transfers, suggesting they wait for the newly elected government to make such decisions. He expressed confidence that the next government in Jammu and Kashmir would be formed without the involvement of the BJP, urging alliance partners to reject the August 5th decision through unity and votes.
M.Y. Tarigami echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging the relief and satisfaction brought by the election date announcement. He highlighted the central demand for the restoration of statehood as a crucial issue for the upcoming elections.
Both leaders stressed the importance of statehood restoration as a key demand leading up to the elections.
