Japan to attempt another H3 rocket launch by April 2024
Tokyo, Nov 17 (UNI) The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has announced its plans to attempt a new launch of the H3 rocket in 2023 fiscal year that runs until March 31, 2024, after the previous launch failed, the Kyodo news agency reported on Friday.
“We want to carry out it [the new launch] as soon as possible and move step by step on schedule,” JAXA President Hiroshi Yamakawa was quoted by Kyodo as telling a press briefing.
Rocket engine tests are set to start soon, after which a specific schedule for the H3 launch will be worked out, he added.
The H3 is a two-stage liquid-fueled rocket due to replace the H2A currently in use. The previous H3 rocket launch attempt took place on March 7.
The first engine fired as scheduled, but the second engine failed, which made the launch of the rocket into a targeted orbit impossible.
The Japanese authorities gave an order for its self-destruction.
Later, they named three possible causes of the accident, one of which was a short-circuit in the engine ignition system.
