*Child Killed in Leopard Attack in Srigufwara Area of Anantnag*

Anantnag, Dec 17, : A leopard attacked a five-year-old girl and dragged her away from near her home at Gallan Gujjar Basti in village Khiram of Srigufwara area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday evening, triggering panic and fear among locals.
Officials said the victim, daughter of Reyaz Ahmad, was attacked by the wild animal when she was near her house. The leopard reportedly dragged the child into nearby bushes before fleeing the area.
Soon after the incident, locals raised an alarm and launched a frantic search, while the police, forest department officials and rescue teams rushed to the spot. After hours of searching, the body of the minor girl was recovered from a bushy area at some distance from the habitation.
Officials said the child had suffered injuries and was declared dead on the spot. The body was later shifted for medico-legal formalities.
The incident has spread fear across the area, with locals expressing concern over frequent leopard sightings near human habitations. Many inhabitants said that movement after sunset has become risky, especially for children.
Forest department officials said teams have been deployed in the area and efforts are underway to track and trap the leopard. Locals have been advised to remain cautious and avoid venturing out alone, particularly during evening and night hours.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further proceedings are underway.
