*Drug Trade, Militancy, Social Crimes Top Policing Priorities in North Kashmir: DIG Maqsood-ul-Zaman*

Bandipora, Dec 17, : Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Maqsood-ul-Zaman, on Wednesday said that combating the drug menace, militancy and rising social crimes remains the top priority of the police, asserting that authorities have adopted an aggressive approach to dismantle drug networks operating in the region.

Speaking to media persons after a public interaction programme in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the DIG as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said the police have registered scores of cases related to narcotics and intensified operations to uproot the menace from society. He said the focus is not limited to arresting peddlers alone but also extends to tracing and confiscating assets generated through the illegal drug trade.

“All properties procured through drug money will be seized,” the DIG said, adding that investigations are underway to unearth movable and immovable assets linked to individuals involved in narcotics trafficking. He said such measures are aimed at breaking the economic backbone of drug syndicates.

Maqsood-ul-Zaman said the police are working relentlessly to eradicate the drug menace, which he described as a serious threat to the social fabric, particularly to the youth. He said coordinated efforts are being made to curb militancy and other social crimes alongside the fight against drugs.

During the interaction, the DIG also listened to public grievances and assured locals that the police would continue to engage with communities to address security concerns and social issues effectively. He reiterated that sustained public cooperation is crucial for maintaining peace and tackling crime in the region.
