Engineer duped of Rs 88.5 lakh, FIR registered against Mumbai property dealer

JAMMU, Jan 18: The Crime Branch (CB) today registered an FIR against a Mumbai-based property dealer for allegedly cheating a private engineer from Jammu of Rs. 88.50 lakhs on the pretext of providing a 3 BHK flat in Mumbai.

The case was registered following a written complaint by the victim, Er Bonish Behal, a resident of Dogra Bhawan, Old Janipur, Jammu.

As per the complaint, Behal was introduced to the accused, Ashish Dinesh Kumar Shah, who claimed to be an investor and builder with strong connections in the Mumbai real estate market.

In March 2023, Shah presented the complainant with pictures of an under-construction building and promised a discounted flat.

Behal transferred the amount in various installments via online payments, cheques, and cash to Shah’s account. However, when Behal later approached the accused for the flat, Shah used delaying tactics and neither provided the flat nor refunded the money.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed that an FIR (No. 05/2025) had been registered at the EOW, CBJ and an in-depth investigation is underway.
