SKIMS Set for Revamp; Long-Serving Officials Holding Adminstrative Positions Likely to be Transferred

Srinagar, Mar 19,: The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura here in Kashmir capital Srinagar is set for a major administrative overhaul, with sources indicating that the institute will soon see a new Medical Superintendent. The incumbent Medical Superintendent has exceeded the permissible tenure limit, having served nearly a decade—initially for three years and then continuously since 2018.

Reliable sources told the news gathering agency Kashmir News Trust (KNT) that apart from the Medical Superintendent, several other officials holding key administrative positions beyond their designated tenure are also likely to be transferred. Insiders revealed that the authorities are keen on streamlining the healthcare setup at SKIMS to enhance efficiency and provide quality medical facilities to patients.

According to sources, the maximum tenure for such positions, even at premier medical institutions like AIIMS, is five years. However, the prolonged stay of certain officials at SKIMS has led to concerns over stagnation in administration.

“The institute has witnessed significant improvements both internally and externally, and the administration is determined to introduce more reforms to further uplift the healthcare standards,” an insider said.

The revamping process is expected to bring fresh appointments in the coming days, ensuring a more dynamic and effective administrative structure at SKIMS. Authorities are reportedly focusing on making the system more transparent and accountable to enhance patient care services.

Despite repeated attempts, officials from SKIMS were not available for comments regarding the imminent administrative reshuffle. However, sources maintain that the changes are aimed at bringing about a more result-oriented and patient-centric healthcare system at the premier institution.
