J&K Final Electoral Rolls with Nearly 9 Million Voters Likely to be Published Tomorrow
Srinagar: The final electoral rolls for Jammu and Kashmir is likely to be published on August 20 (tomorrow), coinciding with the issuance of the first notification for the upcoming Assembly elections. The total number of registered voters in the Union Territory is expected to be around nine million. The last revision recorded 87.09 lakh voters, which is anticipated to rise to between 88 to 89 lakh after the final roll publication.
This update concludes the Special Summary Revision process, after which detailed voter lists for each Assembly segment will be available to political parties and candidates. The latest voter lists are particularly significant this time due to boundary changes in several Assembly constituencies following the Delimitation Commissionโs recent exercise. The number of Assembly seats has increased from 83 to 90.
Of the current 87.09 lakh voters in Jammu and Kashmir, 44.46 lakh are male, and 42.62 lakh are female, with 169 transgender voters. The rolls also include 82,590 People with Disabilities (PwDs), 73,943 very senior citizens, 2,660 centenarians, 76,092 service electors, and 3.71 lakh first-time voters. Approximately 21 lakh voters are aged between 20 to 29.
J&K has 11,838 polling stations, with 2,332 in urban areas and 9,506 in rural regions. On average, each polling station serves around 735 voters.
The Assembly elections will be conducted in three phases. The first notification, covering 24 constituencies, will be issued on August 20. Candidates can file nominations until August 27, with scrutiny on August 28. The last date to withdraw nominations is August 30, and voting for the first phase will occur on September 18.
The second phase of voting, covering 26 Assembly segments, is scheduled for September 25, while the third phase, covering 40 seats, will be held on October 1. (KDC)
