‘Terror created’: Rahul Gandhi condemns ‘burning down entire colony’ of Dalits
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sharply criticised the Nitish Kumar government for failing to act after houses were burned down in Bihar’s Nawada district. He stated that even the cries of Dalit families who lost their homes couldn’t wake the government from its “deep slumber.”
Gandhi posted on X, highlighting the burning of over 80 homes in a Mahadalit colony as a glaring example of injustice against marginalised communities in Bihar.
He accused the BJP and its allies of providing shelter to anarchist elements who intimidate and suppress Dalits, preventing them from claiming their social and constitutional rights. Gandhi also criticised Prime Minister Modi’s silence on the issue, calling it an endorsement of the situation. He demanded strict punishment for the culprits and urged rehabilitation for the victims.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also condemned the incident, describing it as horrifying. She criticized the collapse of law and order in Bihar, pointing out that the firing of dozens of rounds created widespread fear. She, too, called for strict action against those responsible and proper rehabilitation for the victims.
The attack on the Dalit settlement, confirmed by Nawada’s Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunil Kumar, stemmed from a property dispute.
