Six migrant workers and a doctor were killed in a major terror attack on a construction site in Gangangeer area of central Kashmirโs Ganderbal district on Sunday late evening, officials said.
An official told news agencyโKashmir News Observer (KNO) that terrorists stormed a construction site in Gagangeer area during which two migrant labourers were killed while several others including a doctor were injured.
โจHe said that later four more injured including the doctor succumbed to their injuries while five other injured were shifted SKIMS Soura for treatment.
He said IGP Kashmir VK Birdi and other top police and security officials have reached to the spot. Massive cordon and search operation has been launched to nab the attackers, the official said.
He added that the number of causalities can go up. Meanwhile, chief minister Omar Abdullah called it a โโdastardlyโ and โcowardlyโ attack.
โVery sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. 2 have been killed & 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones,โ he posted on X.
He also said that the casualty figurer is mot final as there a number of injured labourers.
โThe casualty figure from the Gagangir attack is not final as there are a number of injured labourers, both local & non-local. Praying that the injured make a full recovery as the more seriously injured are being referred to SKIMS, Srinagar,โ he said.
Home minister Amit Shah said that the dastardly terror attack on civilians is a despicable act of cowardice.

Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured,โ he posted on X.
Union minister Nitin Gadkari also condemned the terror attack and offered condolences to the families of those killed in the attack.

I offer my humble tribute to the martyred laborers and extend my deepest condolences to their families during this difficult time. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said that those behind the attack will not go unpunished.
โI strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack on civilians in Gagangeer. I assure the people that those behind this despicable act will not go unpunished. We have given full freedom to J&K Police, Army and Security forces,โ he posted on X.
