Police Arrests Person Impersonating Police Official in Sopore

SOPORE, June 21: Police in Sopore have arrested an individual posing as a police official at Harwan Crossing, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bomai.

The individual attempted to flee upon noticing the police party at Harwan Crossing but was promptly apprehended. Upon personal search, a fake police identity card and driving license were recovered from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Barkat Ahmad War son of Sanaullah War resident of Zaloora, a driver by profession. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had forged the identity card to impersonate a police official, an act likely intended to deceive the public and misuse the name of the police department for personal advantage.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 32/2025 under Sections 205, 319(2) of BNS has been registered at Police Station Bomai, and investigation is underway to ascertain the motive, possible misuse, and any wider links involved.

J&K Police reiterates that impersonation of law enforcement personnel is a serious offence and will be dealt with firmly. The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or fraudulent activities.
