Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary Clarifies Remarks, Says Comments Were Misinterpreted

Srinagar, Oct 21, : Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday clarified that his recent remarks were misinterpreted and not directed at Srinagar Member of Parliament and National Conference leader Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi.
Choudhary said his comments, made during a public event a day earlier where he was quoted as saying he did not know Ruhullah, were actually aimed at a BJP candidate and not the National Conference MP. “There was rush and noise at the gathering which led to confusion about whom I was referring to,” he explained.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that he holds Aga Ruhullah in the highest regard. “Aga Ruhullah Mehdi is an honourable leader and an elected representative of the people of Srinagar. I have great respect for him and there was no intention to make any personal or political remark against him,” Choudhary said.
The clarification came after the Deputy Chief Minister’s earlier statement triggered sharp reactions from Ruhullah’s supporters and social media users, many of whom questioned the intent behind his comment.
Choudhary added that mutual respect among political leaders is vital for healthy democratic functioning. “I value cordial relations with all public representatives. Respect and cooperation among leaders are essential for effective governance and public service,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks are expected to ease tensions that had arisen following protests by Ruhullah’s supporters in Bandipora earlier in the day. (CNS)
