Srinagar: Under the administration of the Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as a pioneer in e-service provision nationwide, marking a significant advancement in telecommunications infrastructure. The effective implementation of the Digital India initiative at the grassroots level has yielded positive outcomes, ensuring modern amenities reach the populace seamlessly.
According to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Jammu and Kashmir leads the country with an impressive array of 1117 digital services, outstripping other states and union territories. Manipur follows closely behind in the rankings. The DARPG’s National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment Framework serves as a crucial benchmarking tool, monitoring and evaluating states’ progress in e-service delivery.
Recognizing the disparity in e-service delivery, DARPG has facilitated collaboration between the governments of Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir to bolster e-governance infrastructure in Manipur. Through joint efforts, senior officials convened to devise strategies during a two-day meeting. This collaboration resulted in a comprehensive roadmap aimed at expanding online service portfolios in Manipur, with a focus on key departments such as Revenue, Home, Industry and Commerce, Social Welfare, PWD, and PHED.
The initiative is geared towards enhancing public service efficiency and significantly increasing citizen access to online services. DARPG Secretary V Srinivas underscored the importance of digital empowerment in effective governance, emphasizing the long-term benefits of adopting successful practices from states like Jammu and Kashmir.
States like Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala have also made notable strides in integrating e-services into governance, setting examples for others to follow.
