Daily Wager Electrocuted While Repairing Power Line in Shopian

Shopian, July 22, A 55-year-old daily wager working with the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) lost his life after suffering a fatal electric shock while on duty in Dangaam village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Yaqoob, a resident of Chakoora village. According to locals, the tragedy occurred while he was engaged in repairing a damaged electric wire in the area. During the task, he came in contact with a live wire and received a massive electric shock.
He was immediately rushed to District Hospital Shopian; however, doctors at the facility declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has sparked anguish among local residents and fellow workers, who have demanded accountability and proper safety arrangements for ground-level linemen and casual workers deployed for technical jobs without adequate protection or training.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the electrocution. The body was handed over to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.
