Srinagar, May 23: Amid forecast for decrease in rainfall activity, night temperatures recorded an increase in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
A meteorological department official here said that Srinagar recorded a low of 12.6ยฐC against 10.2ยฐC on the previous night. The temperature, he said, is above normal by 0.9ยฐC during this time of the year for the summer capital.
Qazigund recorded a low of 10.7ยฐC against 7.6ยฐC on the previous night. The temperature was 0.4ยฐC above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.
Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 7.2ยฐC against 4.3ยฐC on the previous night. The temperature was 1.0ยฐC above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir during this time of the season, he said.
Kokernag recorded a low of 9.3ยฐC against 7.8ยฐC on the previous night. It was 0.8ยฐC below normal during this time of the season for the place in south Kashmir, the official said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.0ยฐC against 2.6ยฐC on the previous night, the official said. While 6.8ยฐC is normal for the world famous skiing resort during this time of the season, the official said that the temperature was 3.8ยฐC โbelowโ normal for the place in north Kashmirโs Baramulla district.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 9.5ยฐC against 8.9ยฐC on the previous night. The temperature was 0.9ยฐC below normal for the district, the official told Global News Service.
Jammu recorded a low of 21.9ยฐC against 23.2ยฐC on the previous night, the official said. The temperature was 2.5ยฐC โbelowโ normal for J&Kโs winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 11.2ยฐC, Batote 10.7ยฐC and Bhadarwah 13.0ยฐC, the official said.
Regarding rain in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, he said, Srinagar received 1.2mm, Qazigund 1.6mm, Pahalgam 0.8mm, Kupwara 0.7mm, Kokernag 1.2mm, Gulmarg 5.3mm, Jammu 2.4mm, Banihal 1.4mm, Batote 7.0mm and Bhadarwah 0.6mm.
โWidespread moderate/ heavy rain/thunderstorm over Jammu and light to moderate over Kashmir division,โ the official said about the forecast for next 24 hours.
Regarding subsequent 24 hours, he said. There will be decrease in rainfall activity from the afternoon of May 24. (GNS)
