Jammu, Dec 23: The Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence of the Crime Branch has successfully concluded an investigation into a case of impersonation involving a fake Facebook page created in the name of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court.
A challan in the case has been filed before the Court of Sub Registrar, Jammu.
The case, registered under FIR No. 43/2021, pertained to a fraudulent Facebook page that amassed over 10,000 followers and shared controversial posts, including one about the PDD Employees Strike.
These posts misleadingly appeared to represent the official views of the J&K High Court, raising public concerns and potentially fueling misinformation.
The investigation, led by Inspector Jagdeep Singh under the immediate supervision of SHO PS CICE Jammu, DySP Adil Rishu, and overall guidance of SSP CICE J&K M.Y. Kichloo, traced the page’s creator to Sahil Sideeq Bhat, a resident of Khrew, Pampore, currently residing in Bengaluru. Bhat was found to have created the page by impersonating the High Court, committing forgery of electronic records, and posting controversial content.
After thorough legal procedures, the Crime Branch produced the challan, marking a significant step in combating online fraud and ensuring accountability for cyber misconduct.
