IGP Jammu Reviews Security in Akhnoor, Calls for Heightened Vigilance

Srinagar, Feb 24, : Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, has directed security forces to maintain heightened vigilance in the Akhnoor sector to counter potential threats from across the border.

Accompanied by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Jammu Rural, Brijesh Sharma, the IGP visited Akhnoor sub-division on Sunday to assess the security and law enforcement measures in the area, a police spokesperson said on Monday.

During the visit, the Jammu police chief held discussions with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s 10th Division in Akhnoor, focusing on security cooperation and strategic planning. The security arrangements along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) were reviewed to ensure effective border management.

The police officers also provided the IGP with a detailed briefing on the crime situation and overall security framework in the region. The visit aimed at reinforcing law enforcement’s commitment to security enhancement, better coordination, and effective implementation of legal frameworks. The functioning of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) was also reviewed.

The IGP emphasized strict surveillance and instructed officers and jawans to ensure full activation of police infrastructure within their respective areas. He directed Village Defence Groups (VDGs), Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), and Border Police Posts to remain on high alert, while stressing the need for close coordination with the BSF and Army to bolster border security.
