Forest Department launches sale of conifer plants

SRINAGAR, MARCH 24: J&K Forest Department launched sale of conifer plants for general public at Sheikhbagh Forest Complex, Srinagar today with an aim to enhance the tree cover outside forests particularly in Urban and Peri-Urban areas of Kashmir Valley.
The initiative was formally inaugurated by Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Circle, Saurabh Sharma, in the presence of several forest officials, including Divisional Forest Officer, Urban Forestry Division, Srinagar, Dr. Sheikh Mehraj.
Speaking on the occasion, the Conservator Forests, Srinagar Circle highlighted the need for intensive plantation and emphasized planting indigenous species of conifers including Deodar, Kail and Fir. He emphasizes the role of the public for helping the Forest Department to increase the green cover especially outside forests.
It was informed that the sale centre has been established at Sheikhbagh Forest Complex for the convenience of general public and plants will be made available for sale at subsidized rate of Rs.13.50 per sapling. The saplings will be available at the centre upto March 31.
