Sopore,: The Sopore administration on Monday afternoon undertook a road widening drive in the Main Chowk area to alleviate traffic congestion issues in the area.
This initiative aimed to improve traffic flow and reduce commute times for local residents and commuters.
While speaking to media ADC Sopore, SA Raina said that this initiative was part of an ongoing effort that began last month.
The drive focused on road widening near a graveyard, which had been encroached upon, reducing its width by about 10 feet.
This encroachment caused significant traffic snarls and inconvenience to residents, including students.
Raina highlighted the positive cooperation received from the locals during the drive.
He stated that upon appeals from residents, including students, many encroachments were voluntarily removed, ensuring smoother traffic flow.
The administration expressed gratitude for the community’s support.
Currently, JCB machines are being employed to clear the remaining encroachments and restore the road to its original width.
The administration also plans to macadamize the road in the near future, providing a long-term solution to traffic congestion in the area.
